PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Artists Recording Collective (ARC) is a Kansas Limited Liability Company in Good Standing that was cofounded by Christopher Burnett, Erica Lindsay and Sumi Tonooka as a unique professional record label with a new business model centered on artist empowerment and retaining ownership of their work. The ARC catalog of recordings began with one album and three artists in 2007. Today the label has over 100 commercial releases that feature over 300 artists. ARC has also partnered with other entities and businesses over the years to realize engaging arts and education programs such as the monthly ARC STUDENT JAZZ JAM SESSION at 424 Lounge in historic downtown Leavenworth.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

An official program of Kansas City’s annual spotlight of the iconic Kansas-born jazz legend Charlie Parker who modernized the harmony and melody of American Jazz Music. Known by the nickname “Bird,” his approach to music is still influential today. Burnett Music Foundation serves as artistic director and organizer of the BIRD BOOT CAMP + MUSICAL SALUTE with support from the regional catalyst organization KC Jazz ALIVE.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

As a Voting Member of the Jazz Journalism Association, Burnett Music Foundation understands and values the importance of objective jazz criticism and arts commentary is necessary elements toward the perpetuation of this music within the daily cultural fabric of future generations along with these being vital to the current states of the art. With contributing jazz journalists like Scott Yanow, David R. Adler, and Christopher Burnett as featured writers, JAN also welcomes guest artist contributors like the maestro Benny Green.

PROGRAM DESCRIPTION

Kansas City Area Youth Jazz (KCAYJ) is a very unique model on the private jazz education program scene. KCAYJ is a tuition free youth jazz artist program that selects a limited number of participants by competitive live auditions. KCAYJ teaches the art and business of jazz along with producing an album of original music each spring and summer season.
